99 Designs!

It has been a while since my last post (again) and I apologise. I am still learning to draw the line between work and personal projects. I use to think the two could never be mixed, but over the last few weeks I beginning to learn otherwise.


Today I would like to showcase a design site I used for a project at work. 99 Designs is a an amazing little website that 'crowd sources' your design needs.  Basically the way it works is that you write your design brief, submit it on the website,  99 Designs runs a competition and a whole bunch of designers submit logos (over the course of 3/7 day competition) for your approval. You then get the opportunity to pick your favorite as the winner.





How awesome is that? Not only did we have the choice of picking from over 25 design submissions over the course of three days, we were able to provide instant feedback to our designers to make sure the logos were exactly what we wanted.

AntiMosquito Fumigator

I know I have been out of action for a while and I apologise. Starting a new job, comes with the need of actually getting used to doing work. Haha, I think i got a bit too used to my holiday lifestyle of doing nothing. That said I love my job and all the things I am learning :)


And talking about learning, look what I discovered today an iphone app called AntiMosquito Fumigator. The app claims to keep mosquitos away as long as you keep it running in the background. It emits a high-pitched sound that humans don’t hear but mosquitos do and not appreciate. I’ll gladly give it a try this coming weekend, but I admit, I am not too hopeful.

My sister recently got her phone stolen at college. This is the third time it has happened and like most institutions, her college shirks the responsibility of finding the thief and instead reprimands her for bringing "futuristic technology" to the classroom -.-"


Anyhow as annoyed as I was with the institution's uselessness, I decided to look around and see what clever solutions there existed to protect her phone. When I saw this, a huge ass lightbulb went off in my head!

Disguising your iPad as an old fashioned book may strike you as a bit ironic, but when you think about it, it makes perfect sense. BOOK by Nedrelow is a handmade cover that makes an iPad/iPhone look pretty much exactly like a book. The cover will not only thwart would-be thieves, but will also protect your valuable book-a-like in the case of accidental droppage.

It’s plain to see that BOOK is lovely to look at too. The minimalistic hard cover is made by hand, and inside a tailor-fitted sleeve snuggles your iPad/iPhone safely. When encased in a BOOK, you can feel less paranoid about taking your iPad out at a coffee shop too.

Awesome Technology: Hidden

Imagine an app that let’s you spy on the person that might have stolen your laptop. It’s called Hidden. If your computer is stolen, Hidden will show you where it is and who has it. When you activate tracking, Hidden will locate your stolen computer anywhere on the planet, collect photos of the thief and screen shots of the computer in use.

One Hidden user started a Tumblr Blog with the images the app was able to collect. Slightly awkward to look at the person who is using your computer.
